HDH Design Group is a landscape architecture firm in the Sacramento area, with over 30 years of experience in the field, offering design for custom residential, streetscapes, model homes and small commercial projects. Harlan Hardesty, ASLA, is the principal. He designed for several prestigious landscape design and construction firms before starting HDH Design Group in 2003.
?EUR??,,????'??What sets us apart from other firms is our personal service and commitment to each project. We take the time to personally do an on site analysis of the job, conduct a plant tour at a local nursery with the client at their convenience, and maintain open communication,?EUR??,,????'?? says Mr. Hardesty. Custom residential design includes water features, barbecues, fireplaces, fire pits, arbors, shade structures, decorative pots and patios. In addition to the layout plan, construction documents can include irrigation, drainage, grading, lighting, planting and detail plans.
The Hunt home required a Tuscan-style landscape with California influences. The pool in the back garden is designed around the existing native oaks and is situated on an axis with the back windows. The spa is a built-in separate unit off the master bedroom with a sheer descent water feature raised above the patio level.
The Valder residence sits on a hillside that slopes down away from the main level with the basement at the same grade as the back garden. The main floor empties onto an existing wood deck with steps down to access the lower level of the garden. The client wanted a pool, easy access from the front to the back gardens, and to obscure a v-ditch installed by the home builder. The pool is in the side garden. The hill was incorporated into the pool by a raised bond beam as a retaining wall.
The Bulotti residence is on a hillside overlooking scenic Folsom Lake. Elevation change on the lot is approximately 50 feet. The front garden includes a masonry bridge over a dry creek that doubles as drainage. The front porch has golden quartzite cut into 30-inch squares placed at a diagonal to match the interior of the house floor, bringing a sense of inside out. A courtyard wall that is a retaining wall for some of the area creates privacy in the front. The main back garden area is at the lower basement level of the house.
The Williams residence has views of the wooded hillsides and a partial view of the golf course. The back garden is on two levels. The pool takes advantage of the change in elevation with a negative edge and waterfall. A linear arbor leads the eye back to the view of the surrounding hillside.
