Cottong & Taniguchi

Cottong & Taniguchi is a landscape architecture, urban design and land-planning firm located between San Francisco and Silicon Valley in Burlingame, Calif.

The firm has completed master plans for cities down to single residences. Projects include site master planning, urban design, park and recreational design, hotel, institutional, campus, civic, commercial and office project design, industrial facility design, research and development facility design, multiple-family residential, estate design and private garden design.

2070 Delaware Avenue San Mateo, Calif.

This multi-family condominium project occupies an industrial in-fill site. The landscaping solution creates an inviting neighborhood with a spacious feel from an otherwise limited area within a nonresidential setting. A central axial walkway unites the landscape design, which includes both traditional cottages and industrial lofts. An English perennial border on the cottage side provides detailed planting, which contrasts with the simple cubist plantings of bold colors and textures along the lofts. The entries of the project's three pedestrian plazas feature tuteurs, or steel structures for climbing vines, while a perforated metal mountain range graces an open space.
