Wow! PGMS just recently wrapped up its 2006 School of Grounds Management & GIE in Columbus, Ohio, offering attendees a little bit of everything. The only thing that may have been missing during this green industry smorgasbord was YOU!
The school field trip offered a hands-on look at the world-class grounds management program behind the beauty of the Ohio State University (OSU).
Attendees couldn?EUR??,,????'?????<???EUR?t help but pick up some invaluable tips while touring this 1,800-acre campus including an insider?EUR??,,????'?????<???EUR?s look at the unique turf system at Ohio Stadium. I would like to thank OSU Director of Roads and Grounds Kevin Wagner and his Buckeye grounds crew for sharing their knowledge and expertise. Their outstanding work is even more impressive when one considers it has the third largest enrollment in the United States with over 50,000 students.
The school?EUR??,,????'?????<???EUR?s curriculum was again outstanding with over 60 sessions ranging from a diverse assortment of topics from initiating cost-effective safety programs, to automating operations, to cost-effective safety programs, to managing and motivating the under-30 work force. The Green Industry Expo featured over 250 exhibitors displaying the latest products, innovations, technology and services available to grounds management professionals.
Throw in over 100 manufacturers providing hands-on demonstrations and test-drives at the Outdoor Product Field Day and it was easy to see why the School of Grounds Management has been called the complete buying, selling and learning experience for the green industry professional.
I would be remiss if I didn?EUR??,,????'?????<???EUR?t mention what was perhaps the highlight of the week ?EUR??,,????'?????<???(R) the announcement of the 2006 PGMS Green Star Award winners. This program is the only one in the Green Industry which salutes the grounds superintendent responsible for maintaining a well-manicured landscape year round. This year PGMS honored 26 programs with awards in 12 categories.
Congratulations to all for reaching the industry?EUR??,,????'?????<???EUR?s professional peak.
All of this brings me back to YOU! If you didn?EUR??,,????'?????<???EUR?t attend the school you are simply letting the industry pass you by!
