The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) announced the availability of $17 billion in loans for critical infrastructure projects.

The loans are part of an expansion of the Transportation Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (TIFIA) program and come from the recently approved transportation bill, Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act (MAP-21). Each dollar of federal funds can provide roughly $10 in TIFIA credit assistance, bringing the total to $17 billion.

As a variety of projects are eligible to receive this funding, including highway, rail, public transit, bridge and tunnel projects, U.S. Transportation Secretary, Ray LaHood encourages states and cities across the country to submit letters of interest for the TIFIA program.

For more information about MAP-21 please visit AASHTO's resource center. The site will be updated regularly with new implementation information.
