Ballot Measure Reaffirms State Commitment

JUNEAU, AK

This November, Alaskans voted in Ballot Measure Number 5, the anti-billboard initiative, which overturned a law passed earlier this year. The law would have allowed signs on private property giving directions to businesses located elsewhere. While these signs were relatively small, many Alaskans feared they were the first step in a billboard industry-led campaign to allow "mega-signs" in the Last Frontier. Measure 5 reaffirmed the state's status as one of four billboard-free states in the country.
