NAHB Claims that Sierra Club Report as Biased
WASHINGTON, D.C.
The Sierra Club has recently cited urban sprawl hitting cities from Atlanta to Seattle as the fastest growing threat to the environment, as a result of problems with lost open space and increased air and water pollution. However, according to President Donald D. Martin of the 195,000 member National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) he believes the Sierra Club's report is fundamentally flawed.
"The report is biased, panders to a constituency more interested in stopping growth than improving the quality of urban life, and sensationalizes the issues," Martin continued, "Even more alarming, the report fails to provide any practical solutions to the very real problems of finding ways to improve roads and mass transit to reduce traffice congestion, to relieve overcrowded classrooms, and to provide other public facilities and services required to meet the needs of a growing population."
