A visionary look at development and landscape architecture in Greater Southern California's post-expansionist future. The importance of lively, appealing public space as a component of a thriving community; the critical role landscape architecture plays in the creation of reinvigorating open spaces in urban, mid-urban and suburban residential settings; achieving fusion of the built and natural environments; designing systems that extend beyond property lines and considering the impacts on adjacent or downstream properties; challenging traditional concepts of development and landscape design; the new ''open space'' amenities of development, the trend toward ''green'' and sustainable development - two Builders and two Landscape Architects will muse over the trends they see on the horizon and the innovations that are working.

''I'm excited about the opportunity to work more closely with Phyllis Alzamora, the Executive Director, and the local ULI staff, as well as other District Council Chairs across the country and internationally,'' said Jackson. ''At a recent ULI leadership retreat in Colorado, I met with members from nearly all of the District Councils in the States, and also from Canada, Mexico, the Philippines, Australia, China, United Kingdom, Germany, and Russia. Sharing best practices and lessons learned in the land use planning industry is global today in the ULI.''
''Randy brings a depth of knowledge in the industry and an understanding of ULI's involvement in the community that will surely enrich the members engagement in the Institute,'' said Alzamora.
