Water Rules Tightening in Arizona


Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano has praised the town of Payson's water restrictions, which are among the toughest in the nation.

Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano has unveiled a new water conservation plan for the state that includes a permanent five percent reduction by all state agencies.

The governor called for ?EUR??,,????'??a culture of conservation?EUR??,,????'?? in the state and praised the Arizona town of Payson's water rules, which are among the toughest in the nation.

She spoke at the 85th Arizona Town Hall, held at the Grand Canyon in early November.

Under the Payson ordinance, waste water of any kind is prohibited. Also banned in Payson are new turf areas, artificial water features, plants that require spray irrigation and the use of misters.

The new statewide water rules mandate several grades of water restrictions that will be implemented as drought conditions dictate.
