Triple S Products Pledges Help to Knights of Heroes Charity Foundation
The Knights of Heroes Foundation, a charity that brings kids that have lost a parent due to military service to a wilderness adventure camp free of charge received a generous offer from a landscape product manufacturing company.
Over the next two months, Triple S Products, which sells skid steer attachments, compact tractor attachments,
fence installation tools and several other items for the fencing and construction industries, will be donating
5 percent of all gross sales to the Knights of Heroes Foundation, a charity that helps kids that have lost a parent
due to military service.
"We are a small business looking to help increase awareness for a small charity," says Brady Shafer, Vice President of Triple S Products. "Our mission was to find a charitable cause that we could contribute to and make a difference,"
While doing the search for a charitable cause Triple S looked at several, including the likes of the Wounded Warrior Project and the American Cancer Society.
"At the end of the day, we felt like we could make the biggest impact with the Knights of Heroes Foundation, due to its smaller size. While the Wounded Warrior Project and others are outstanding causes, they are also multi-million dollar charities so what we can raise wouldn't be as important to them as the Knights of Heroes," Shafer explained.
The Knights of Heroes Foundation was created in January of 2007 by Lieutenant Colonel Steve Harrold. He did so to commemorate the life of a friend and former pilot, Major Troy Lee "Trojan" Gilbert, who was killed during combat operations while flying his F-16 to protect ground troops being overrun by the enemy in the Al-Anbar Province, Iraq on November 27, 2006. At the time of his death, Major Gilbert was a husband and father of five children.
So now, each summer, families with children between the ages of 11 and 17 are invited to attend the Knights of Heroes camp at absolutely no cost. While the kids are at camp, the moms and younger siblings spend the week visiting sites in and around Colorado Springs. Lodging and travel arrangements are made for the families that attend from outside the local area.
"What makes us stand out from other charities is that 100 percent of all donations go towards the cause, says Steve Harrold, Founder of the Knight of Heroes. "From our camp mentors to our front office, everyone's time is donated without compensation."
He adds, "Our goal is to help empower children who have lost their fathers during military service by providing positive adult mentorship, character development, and lasting friendships forged during an annual wilderness adventure camp. And with the help of Triple S Products and other outstanding businesses we have been able to expand and take our foundation to new heights."
The adventure camp consists of everything from white water rafting to rock climbing. Each camper has their very own mentor assigned to them.
