Electric lawn mowers are among the items potentially covered by the 25% tax credit. Such a credit could prove beneficial to landscape contractors fighting to stay out of the red in a tough economy.

Senator Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), Senator Bernie Sanders (D-Vt.) and Congressman Peter Welch (D-Vt.) recently proposed a 25% tax credit with the purchase of qualifying alternative energy powered lawn, garden and forestry power equipment.

Products powered by solar, electricity and rechargeable or replacement batteries are among those that qualify. Hybrid-electric drive trains and cutting systems are also included, as are alternative power sources as regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

The Senators and Congressmen?EUR??,,????'???s offices claim the proposed credit seeks to encourage the purchase of clean energy power equipment, thereby reducing the dependence of American?EUR??,,????'???s on foreign oil.
