As LASN went to press with the March issue, the Northwest had been visited by an early thaw and significant rainfall, causing severe flooding in Washington and Oregon. The author of the article on bicycle safety in this issue called to tell us the water was only one foot below the bridge he crosses on his bicycle commute to the City of Tacoma Planning Department. What a trooper!

We did not hear from any readers (or authors) about the "Pineapple Express" weather system that shipwrecked itself on the west coast, but experienced it for ourselves. Once again, an unlucky driver learned why you don't park a car at the toe of a slope in Malibu, California.
