In 2004, frustrated while trying to find images for a presentation, urban design professionals Brian Phelps, ASLA and Chris Whitis set out to create a comprehensive online image library of the built environment. The result of their efforts is site-phocus.com. Sitephocus allows users to search sites from around the world using a variety of search options. Since launching last summer they have accumulated nearly 12,000 photos, adding over 400 images each month. Being designers is critical in their approach to photographing spaces. They see from a designer’s perspective, resulting in images that help users fully understand a space. One of the great aspects of the site is the opportunity to see projects you may not otherwise see. Recent additions have included sites from Barcelona to Vancouver. Categories range from mixed-use, commercial and residential, to streetscapes, parks, plazas and natural landscapes. Sitephocus’ advanced search features provide a convenient means for finding specific places, project types and/or design elements. The site offers customizable folders for storing your favorite images. To learn more, visit www.sitephocus.com
