State officials in Oregon are hoping to educate the public about pesticide use and protect streams from chemicals by tracking the amount of pesticides used per household.

Oregon state officials are asking hundreds of residents to keep a diary of the pesticides they use on their lawns and gardens.

Just as commercial and agricultural users do, residents participating in the survey will record the date, location, reason, amount, and name and registration number of each pesticide they use.

?EUR??,,????'??This agency registers all pesticide products in this state,?EUR??,,????'?? said Chris Kirby, administrator of the pesticides division for the state Department of Agriculture. ?EUR??,,????'??So yes, we know what is being made available to people. But what quantities they are using and what they actually use is information we do not know.?EUR??,,????'??

The Gilmore Research Group of Seattle is conducting the survey and hopes to get 250 households throughout Oregon to participate each quarter.

Officials hope that the information collected will be useful in educating the public about pesticide use as well as to protect streams from chemicals.
