NRPA Released Survey Results, Found Park and Recreation Activities Positively Impact People's Mental Health

Parents Believe That Getting Outdoors is Especially Beneficial

NRPA recently released polling results that revealed that people are positively impacted by community services like parks and recreation.

According to a poll released by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), 93 percent of U.S. adults say activities offered by parks and recreation services are beneficial to their mental health such as getting out in nature, socializing while in nature, and exercising outdoors.

Parents on the other hand, while they also agree that these services are a benefit to their mental health, three in five parents said socializing and spending times outdoors are especially beneficial.

"Park and recreation professionals are dedicated to the health, safety and well-being of the communities they serve. This includes providing people of all ages and abilities with access to activities, such as exercising, that are scientifically proven to boost mental health and wellness in children and adults alike," said Kevin Roth, NRPA vice president of research, evaluation and technology. "Anyone who wants to improve their physical and/or mental health is encouraged to visit a local park or recreation center where there are healthy activity options for everyone."
