Two Massachusetts men were recently in court to face charges of stealing more than $150,000 in landscaping equipment from that state and several nearby states, officials said.

Robert Amado, 42, and Christopher Bromley, 31, were charged with larceny over $250. Amado was also charged with witness intimidation. He was released on $50,000 bail under the condition that he stay away from the alleged victims of the witness intimidation, Bromley was released on $5,000 bail, an official statement said.

Amado allegedly went out at night in search of equipment, including snowplows, excavators, and tractors, and would often stake out a location before stealing the equipment. Bromley allegedly accompanied him on occasion. The equipment thefts are said to have occurred in Hopedale, Harwich, and Woburn, Mass., Clifton Park, N.Y., East Hartford, Conn., Berwick, Maine, and Hollis, N.H., according to the statement.

Amado allegedly traveled to those locations and shortly after, reports of stolen equipment were made to local authorities. The statement also declared that Amado allegedly became aware that authorities had interviewed two witnesses in the investigation and he then threatened them.

The attorney general's office has been investigating this case since November 2012 after a referral by the Governor's auto theft task force.

Both men face 20-year maximum sentences if convicted.
