The groundwater development plan from the Southern Nevada Water Authority will tap aquifers that go under both east-central Nevada and Utah?EUR??,,????'???s western desert. Officials are concerned that intense pumping on the Nevada side, meant to boost water supplies available to rapidly growing Las Vegas, will have a negative effect on groundwater wells used by Utah. Environmentalists are worried about the impact on headwaters in the Deep Creek Mountains and other bodies of water. Studies by the U.S. Geological Survey and the Bureau of Land Management are expected to be complete in two to three years.
