James Buchanan, an independent landscaper, was noted for his volunteer efforts with children.

Our circulation department received a reader response card from Alice Faye Buchanan of Abingdon, Va., informing Landscape Contractor National she no longer needed to receive the magazine, as James Buchanan, the landscape contractor addressee, was dead?EUR??,,????'??+the victim of the so-called D.C. snipers.

We were taken aback by this note, because he was one of the victims of this notorious shooting spree and that we were now just hearing from her, two years and nearly nine months after his passing.

On Fri., Oct. 3, 2003 at 7:41 a.m., James Buchanan, 39, was shot and killed while mowing the lawn at Fitzgerald Auto Mall near Rockville, Maryland. He normally tended to this landscape on Fridays but had come early than usual to do the work. Buchanan was the second victim of the snipers. The first shooting death had occurred the previous day, but the day Buchanan was killed the snipers also shot and killed four other people, the murderous pair?EUR??,,????'???s most active day of mayhem.

CNN reported that James “Sonny” Buchanan was ?EUR??,,????'??known as a man with a big heart who was always ready to help others.?EUR??,,????'?? He volunteered two to three times a week at the local Boys and Girls Club and ?EUR??,,????'??was the dad to literally 400 kids.”
