A new piece of forestry legislation released from Senator Larry Craig (R-ID)-- a sweeping set of proposals that would give the Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management greater authority in planning on federal lands-- will hold them more accountable for stable and predictable management. Organizations like American Forests are watching the Public Land Management Responsibility and Accountability Act closely, hoping that it includes language to promote adaptive management and the collaborative learning process so critical to ecosystem management-- with an overall objective of building public trust in federal land management agencies.
