Florida Flooding Minimized Thanks to Stormwater Project

Hurricane Jeanne has caused huge flooding in Palm City, Florida. ?EUR??,,????'??We just got cleaned up from Frances and then Jeanne came through,?EUR??,,????'?? said Bob Pelosi in a press statement. (Pelosi is a resident who lives only yards from the St. Lucie River.) Even though the areas around the St. Lucie River were flooded, residents and county officials said that overall the Old Palm City area was spared thanks to a $1.4 million "stormwater retrofit" project. The retrofit includes a system of drainage ditches, a collection pond and underground pipes to control and treat floodwater, as well as an attractive environment for wildlife. It was completed this summer.
