Irrigation Association members took their message to Capitol Hill in May. Several members, including individuals from the board of directors, spent two days in Washington meeting with lawmakers and officials from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Environmental Protection Agency and Commerce Department.

The delegation visited offices of representatives from Nebraska, California, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Virginia, Georgia and Colorado. The agenda included an IA proposal to set aside EQIP funds for irrigation improvements in states experiencing drought, a request to establish a congressional water caucus, and a proclamation declaring July Smart Irrigation Month. IA members also had dinner with Rep. Jim Costa, D-Calif., who has been a leader on water issues. Costa is on the House Resources Committee, the House Agriculture Committee and the House Committee on Science.
