On April 4, 2006, the Colorado House of Representatives passed HB06-1331, the Landscape Architects Professional Licensing Act. The bill was introduced to the Colorado Senate on April 10 and assigned to the Business, Labor and Technology Committee.

The essence of the bill is that if you practice landscape architecture in Colorado, you would be required to be a licensed practitioner. The bill calls for the creation of the Colorado State Board of Landscape Architects, consisting of 5 members, 3 of whom must be landscape architects. The board establishes the education and experience criteria that applicants must satisfy to obtain a license as a landscape architect. The bill establishes the powers and duties of the board and directs the board to issue licenses in several manners: licensure by examination, administered by the board; licensure by endorsement, in which a license is issued to those who hold an equivalent license in another jurisdiction; and licensure by prior practice, in which a license is issued to persons who practiced landscape architecture for a specified period before July 1, 2006
