Columbia College wants to treat the San Diego Reservoir with a herbicide to reduce the growth of algae and invasive weeds. Located near Sonora, Calif. in the Sierra Nevada foothills, the request must first go before the Tuolumne Utilities District, which operates the reservoir. Water experts have concluded that the lake is choking with Brazilian elodea, an invasive weed from South America, and using aquatic herbicides is one of the most effective ways to control it.
If approved by the board, the college would treat the reservoir during the district?EUR??,,????'???s annual ditch outage this fall.
