The Belden Brick Co. announced July 21, 2011 it has approved a purchase agreement for Lawrenceville Brick, Inc. of Lawrenceville, Va. through Redland Brick of Williamsport, Md., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Belden Holding & Acquisition Co. Redland Brick operates four brick manufacturing plants in Maryland, Pennsylvania and Connecticut.
Lawrenceville Brick was incorporated in 1947 as Brick and Tile Corp. of Lawrenceville. The original plant opened that same year, with a manufacturing capacity of 10 million bricks. The company continued to expand as demand for brick increased. By 2002, it had three retail operations and facilities to produce 115 million bricks a year.
"We’re very pleased with this arrangement,” said Belden Brick Chairman William Belden Jr. “We've known the people at Lawrenceville Brick for quite some time and admire the products they produce. Their line fits well into the Redland Brick portfolio and their market area is an excellent enhancement to our sales territory."
Belden noted the management at Lawrenceville decided it was just the right time to sell, and Belden Brick saw it as an excellent opportunity to expand its product portfolio.
Belden Brick reports it is the sixth largest brick manufacturer in the United States, and the largest family owned and managed brick company in the nation.
