2024 Class of Fellows, Scott Victor Emmelkamp, FASLA, St. Louis Chapter

Scott Emmelkamp is a passionate leader whose dedication to landscape architecture has manifested itself in community involvement, service to ASLA, enrichment of landscape architecture education, and a stellar professional career. In his local community, Emmelkamp was the first and only Landscape Architect to serve on the city planning and zoning commission, where he aided in creating a comprehensive plan for the city that successfully guided much-needed growth of commercial development and tax revenue. For over 15 years, Emmelkamp has volunteered for the nonprofit Open Space STL, starting with cleanups along the Meramec River and leading to joining the board of directors, chairing committees, serving on the executive committee, and eventually becoming president of the board. He has served with ASLA for over 30 years as a two-time chapter president, two terms as trustee, four board chairmanships, and ten national ASLA committees. He holds an advisory roles for the landscape architecture programs at his alma mater University of Arkansas and Washington University in St. Louis. Emmelkamp's association with the Washington University Sam Fox School of Design professional advisory council led to an opportunity to share his knowledge as an adjunct faculty member in their MLA program. Professionally, his skills and reputation resulted in securing and leading award-winning projects, including a comprehensive St. Louis County parks system master plan spanning 12,400 acres and 74 parks.
